Act I: Introducing Us

Let us introduce ourselves and our blog where we will be sharing the world of cinema from Ankara!

Hello, fellow cinephiles!

We are Gülce and Zeynep, aka this blog’s narrators, currently residing in lovely Ankara. Both of us are third-year students in Bilkent University’s Communication and Design department. We met in our screenwriting class and immediately became close after realizing how much we both appreciated the beauty of motion pictures, a trait we are hoping you share with us, too! Zeynep is the Bridget Jones-level romance lover out of the two, meanwhile, Gülce is the fright fan, worshiping the gore of horror films.

Even though one of us, Gülce, has lived here her whole life, the other, Zeynep, moved to the capital for education purposes. Ever since our lives became closer to what it was step by step, we started to discover the wondrous elements that Ankara had to offer when it comes to our passion. Although our love of black-and-white films is to the moon and back, we wanted to showcase that Ankara is not just the “gray” capital city when it comes to cinema. From film festivals to many colorful residents that live and breathe film, Ankara is a silent yet underrated gem when it comes to the motion picturesque.

As your narrators, we want to draw your focus to where to watch a good flick. Where are the good-old movie theatres that we missed over the past couple of years? And where to catch a jarring movie-going experience all around the city? Also, to put a flashback into films that took place in our charming capital, the tracks of it can be traced all the way back to the Yeşilçam Era of Turkish Cinema (not everything focused on the glitz and glam of İstanbul as it seems)!

We are incredibly excited to flash out an understated side of Ankara, a side that was forgotten about and even looked over. As we explore our residential with you all as well!
